Artificial intelligence is changing the way we work, and our latest Concho Valley Technology Alliance meeting gave attendees a practical roadmap for embracing that change with confidence. Harley Crane, Technical Project Manager at TCP Software, delivered an insightful presentation that cut through the hype surrounding AI and focused instead on real-world applications that professionals can begin using today. By combining live demonstrations with relatable examples, Harley showed that AI isn’t about replacing people—it’s about empowering them to work smarter, make better decisions, and spend more time on the work that creates the greatest value.
One of the session’s biggest takeaways was the importance of understanding both the strengths and limitations of AI. Harley explained how today’s AI models generate responses, why they can occasionally produce convincing but inaccurate information, and why human oversight remains essential. His recommendation to think of AI as “a highly capable intern” resonated with attendees, reinforcing that while AI can dramatically accelerate work, success still depends on thoughtful review, sound judgment, and responsible use.
Beyond the fundamentals, attendees explored practical strategies for integrating AI into everyday workflows. From drafting emails and summarizing lengthy documents to conducting research, preparing for meetings, organizing information, and automating repetitive tasks, the presentation highlighted countless opportunities to reclaim valuable time. Harley also introduced the concept of a personal “second brain”—an AI-powered knowledge system that stores context and information to create more personalized, efficient, and productive interactions over time.
The session concluded with an engaging discussion on the future of AI, including implementation strategies, data privacy, organizational policies, and the evolving role of AI across both the public and private sectors.
